Caring For Your Orthotics
They arrive looking great, but can you clean your orthotics and keep them looking good and hygienic after thousands and thousands of kilometers of wear? Absolutely.
How? Some lukewarm water and your choice of mild soap is all you need here actually.
There are a few things to keep in mind though:
- Don't throw them into the dishwasher, as the rough and tumble can cause the layers to separate and might cause your orthotics to deteriorate quicker than they should. So good old fashioned handwashing is recommended.
- Make sure you wait until your orthotics are dry before you put them back into your shoes - nasties like fungus and mould thrive in conditions where moisture is present, and you don't want them to be thriving anywhere near the inside of your shoes. Not only do they create bad odours, but they can lead to things like tinea (Athlete's Foot).
- If you wear your orthotics without socks from time to time, it can be a good idea to give them a once over with an antibacterial wipe, just to remove any nasties that may be on the surface - especially if you notice your feet sweat or it's been a hot and humid day.
